System: Great Battles 1939-45 (WB-95)

Complexity: medium

Scale: Division-regiment

Scenarios: 2

Description:

The last offensive of the German army was a complete surprise for the Western Allies, both in terms of location and time. Two panzer armies (5th and 6th SS) were dispatched on the western borders of Germany and were to make quick attacks on the contact points of the Allied armies and to pincer the American forces of the 1st and 9th Armies. The plan was risky, because two parallel attacks were to be made. The first one was aimed at Liege -Bostogne, and the second one at Maastricht. If the planned attacks were successful, the situation of the Americans would be very difficult. They would find themselves surrounded without any available supply routes.  Patton’s 3rd Army and the 7th Army further south would remain outside the cauldron. But would they be able to launch a counterattack from the south quickly enough? However, the Allies cannot be condemned to defeat so quickly. They have significant forces in the areas of the German attack and, if used well, Germans can suffer a devastating defeat. In the scenario, we allow for offensive operations in southern Holland, where the Germans have only launched binding attacks.
